Cliff Westfall is a New York City-area songwriter whose clever, rock-tinged spin on classic country has been compared to Dwight Yoakam, Rodney Crowell, Robbie Fulks and Elvis Costello. His 2018 debut album, Baby You Win, garnered airplay on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country station and Ditty TV, among many others, and received strong reviews in upwards of 30 publications, both in the US and worldwide — including an “Album of the Month” feature in the UK’s Country Music People print magazine. The album also made numerous year-end ”Best Of” lists.
Westfall has also been a finalist in the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Competition at MerleFest in North Carolina, for his song “More and More (I Love You Less and Less).”
A proud 8th-generation Kentucky native, Westfall grew up in the Ohio River town of Owensboro, the son of a police officer and a liquor distillery line worker. Country music, rock and roll and classic old school R&B competed for space on the airwaves, on jukeboxes, and in the mixtapes of Westfall and his friends. These influences all find their way into the style that he calls “electrified honky tonk.”
Westfall will be accompanied by guitarist Chris Luquette on lead guitar (2X Grammy nominated for his work in bluegrass band Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen).
He and his band plan to record a new album in the coming months.
“In the current country landscape, Cliff Westfall’s music is a refreshing breeze. Drawing influence from the timeless hooks and unmatched wit of artists like Roger Miller and Chuck Berry, Westfall incorporates a dose of old school know-how into his art. … As it were, some of the most cunning and richly melodic country to grace us in the genre’s contemporary era comes from a singer who hails from the Big Apple.” — PopMatters
“Westfall combines witty lyrics with a back-to-basics approach that variously recalls such artists as The Flatlanders, Dwight Yoakam, and Gram Parsons. His skillfully crafted songs – a mix of uptempo toe-tappers and weepy ballads – are loaded with addictive hooks and evidence of the artist’s love of wordplay.” — No Depression
“If Elvis Costello had made an album of original country songs, it would have sounded something like this.” — New York Music Daily
